Dividend Income: October 2010

Another month, another drop in my dividend bucket! October is when the Bank of Nova Scotia (TSE:BNS) fills my coffer and it usually gives a spike to dividends. Interestingly enough, my October earnings are slightly lower than my July earnings and that’s because I was able to double-dip in July. The small profit taking I did on BNS was done after the ex-dividend for BNS and I purchased Just Energy (TSE:JE.UN) just on time.

October 2010 Passive Income: 437.33$

I have finally purchased a US dividend holding. Not the first dividend holding I thought I would buy but a good purchase nonetheless considering the price. I did sell my position in Manulife (TSE:MFC) to purchase Intel (NASDAQ:INTC). I figured that the insurance companies will stay relatively low for a little while and I’ll have a chance to buy them again.

Since I started to buy shares from dividend paying companies under Computershare and CIBC Mellon to DRiP fractional shares, I have purchased 499.57$ worth of shares including the re-invested dividends. It’s not much but it’s steady.  I am figuring out the best time to send my cheques but it takes a month to know if you made any mistakes so it’s important to be patient at first.

My total dividend earnings for the year so far consists of 3172.36$.
